RI students victory at international folk festival

A old-fashioned dance and melodies category from Rawamangun tall institute within Jakarta won three honors at the 16th International Iskele Municipality Folk Dance Festival within North Cyprus.

The category of 28 students from Indonesia won second site at the festival also towards the greatest melodies award.

The group’s leader, Leo Mokodompit from IOV Youth Section Indonesia, remarked within a release obtained via The Jakarta Post onto Monday that the category served seven old-fashioned dances: a Saman dance from Aceh; a Betawi Kembang Aprok dance; a Pagelu dance from Toraja; South Sulawesi; an Alar-alar dance from Kalimantan; an Indang Badantak dance from Minangkabau, West Sumatra; a Balinese dance and a Yosim Pancar dance from Papua.

The festival, held from June 29 towards July 5 within Iskele, North Cyprus, was featured various countries such as Mexico, Turkey, Russia, Palestine and South Korea.

“They had intensive traditions for four months and this was their extreme achievement,” remarked Susan Susiana and Rinawati, two teachers whom ushered the students.

The category shall attend another international folk art festival within Naoussa, Greece, from July six towards July 12.
